The Technology

MicroFlex technology is an innovative, new technology for an ultra-slim, ultra-flexible endoscope providing applications in navigation, visualization and therapy. MicroFlex provides digital control over the shape of a flexible endoscope, involving advanced metal alloys, micro-actuators and a digital control system.MicroFlex endoscopes are small (1mm diameter), flexible (bend 180° in their radius) and are actively-guided via an intuitive control interface. 

 MicroFlex technology comes from Aerospace engineering advances with significant innovations in actuation, sensing, IC fabrication methods, assembly and control methods. A U.S. patent application has been filed. Quest is the exclusive licensee for MicroFlex technology.

Applications

• The MicroFlex technology will allow more flexible and actively-guided digitally controlled endoscopes.  Its use will provide physicians with tools for minimally invasive surgery in currently inaccessible areas.  The technology has applicability in the following areas:

• Pulmonary medicine
• Skull base and intracranial access
• Neurosurgery
• Urology
• Pediatric and neonatology care
